A favourite event in the Sysmex CSR calendar during the winter months is the Kiwi Movie Night which we hold to raise money for the Kiwis for Kiwi charity. This year we were fortunate enough to enjoy three movie nights (one in June, one in July and one in August).

Screening in June was the Taika Waititi classic ‘Boy’ which proved to be just as funny the second time around for many of the attendees. In July, we broke slightly with tradition and screened the highly regarded movie ‘The Dish’. (For the Australians out there, we’re taking a leaf out of your book and claiming it as a Kiwi movie since two of the lead actors are from New Zealand.) Our final movie in August was another Taika Waititi masterpiece ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’. While not currently a classic, this movie is absolutely destined to be classed as one in the future.

This year’s Kiwi Movie night proved to be a hugely popular event with staff as it gave them a great excuse to escape the chilly wet Auckland weather, have a giant laugh and do their best to raise much needed funds for the fantastic Kiwi.

Kiwis for Kiwi is the trading name and call to action of The Kiwi Trust – a fully independent charity, officially launched in October 2012 to protect kiwi and their natural habitat. Their goal is to reverse the decline of kiwi and see a rise in their numbers nationally and every part of the programme is geared towards achieving this vision. They support on-the-ground kiwi projects led by community groups, predator removal from kiwi habitats, as well as kiwi sanctuaries and captive facilities. Much of the work that is done is by communities, iwi and hap?, who together protect tens of thousands of hectares so that kiwi can survive and flourish.
