CSR Activity

On Sunday the 8th of April a group of 50 Sysmex staff and families went to Motuihe Island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf as volunteers for the Motuihe Island Trust.

The vision for the Motuihe Trust is that Motuihe Island will be a natural environment of indigenous flora and fauna together with identified significant historic sites, offering a quality recreational, environmental and educational experience to visitors.

On arrival the team from Sysmex were welcomed by John from the Motuihe Trust, and given some background information about the work that is being done by the volunteers plus a really interesting overview of the unique ecological features of the island. After a brief explanation on what the tasks for the day would involve the group was divided into two, with half working in the nursery re-potting native seedlings, and half walking over the Island looking for and spraying the dreaded Mothweed plant to help eradicate it from the island.

After a fun morning’s work the team enjoyed a shared picnic lunch and time to explore the Island at leisure, have a swim or just rest up while others continued their great efforts combatting the Mothweed.

It was a great day out and one that Sysmex are keen to make an annual event as part of our ongoing commitment to the environment.
