It’s Jammies In June
We got our first taste of winter at the beginning of June as temperatures dropped around the country. Thank goodness we all had lovely and warm pyjamas to keep us toasty. However, not everyone in NZ can say the same and so Sysmex New Zealand staff pitched in to collect pyjamas for the Jammies in June campaign run by the Middlemore Foundation.
Jammies in June was established by the Middlemore Foundation because too many kids in Counties Manukau were getting sick in winter with preventable illnesses such as Acute Rheumatic Fever. Approximately 125,000 children live in Counties Manukau, 54% of them live in areas of high socio-economic deprivation. This year, the Middlemore Foundation is targeting a collection goal of 40,000 pairs of pyjamas.
As well as collecting pyjamas, Sysmex also held a Friday Slipper Day, a special fundraising day where staff got the chance to wear their slippers to work for the cost of a gold coin.
If you are interested in helping out the Jammies in June campaign, they accept new and used flannelette pyjamas and any other warm sleep attire – including onesies – for children aged between 0 to 18 years. This year they especially need pyjamas for babies aged 0-2, and children aged 12 and above. Adult-sized pyjamas are also useful for children in their late teens.
