We are thrilled to announce that Sysmex New Zealand has successfully implemented its Delphic Anatomical Pathology (Delphic AP) laboratory information system (LIS) at Gelre ziekenhuizen, a leading hospital organisation in the Netherlands. This groundbreaking project marks the first multi-site implementation of Delphic AP in the country, connecting Gelre ziekenhuizen and UMC Utrecht.

Located in Apeldoorn, the laboratory at Gelre ziekenhuizen processes approximately 35,000 patient samples annually in its Histopathology department, providing a range of pathology services for both internal and external healthcare providers.

In April 2024, Gelre ziekenhuizen went live with Delphic AP, utilising the same LIS instance as UMC Utrecht. This involved replacing its legacy laboratory information system and aligning its lab workflow with UMC Utrecht.

The Delphic AP LIS is designed to meet the multi-site requirements of both UMC Utrecht and Gelre ziekenhuizen, facilitating information sharing and standardising data and workflows. This integration enhances collaboration and operational efficiency across both sites.

The new system equips Gelre’s team of pathologists, laboratory technicians, and personnel with a comprehensive tool for managing histopathology processing and reporting workflows. With this capability, they can deliver pathology services seamlessly and efficiently. This is a big step forward for the future of Digital pathology.

The project, a year in the making, involved several key components:

  • Implementing new HL7 interfaces between Gelre’s hospital information system and the UMC Utrecht Delphic AP system.
  • Developing and upgrading the Delphic AP-Sectra digital pathology interface to function in a multi-site setup.
  • Various other configuration tasks to ensure a smooth transition.

Arjit Bhana, Chief Executive Officer of Sysmex New Zealand, commented: “Gelre has shown remarkable dedication and commitment to this project, recognising the need for seamless continuity as their previous system neared its end of life. Delphic AP will offer Gelre ziekenhuizen and UMC Utrecht a common workflow, built upon the proven success of the Utrecht Delphic AP system.”

We are proud to support Gelre ziekenhuizen and UMC Utrecht in their mission to provide top-tier pathology services, and we look forward to continuing our partnership to enhance healthcare delivery.

Support for Delphic AP in the Netherlands will be solely handled by Bodegro and Sysmex New Zealand. Please note that Sysmex Netherlands is not part of this initiative.
